When Prabal Gurung, one of the 33 new inductees (all wearing green boutonnieres) of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, was asked last night if membership did, indeed, have its privileges, he did not hesitate to respond. “The biggest part of all of this is having access to amazing, established designers,” he said. “The second-best part is the camaraderie that is building among all the members. That is the part I am really trying to focus on.” In fact, he added, he was heading to dinner with jeweler Monique Péan directly following the party.
That camaraderie was clear Tuesday night at the cocktail held at Donna Karan’s magnificent Upper West Side apartment to fete the next generation of American fashion designers. Christian Cota caught up with CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, Diane von Furstenberg was spotted chatting with Charlotte Ronson, and Flora Gill of Ohne Titel talked shop with fellow CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist Dana Lorenz of Fenton/Fallon.
A jovial and completely charming Olivier Theyskens, now creative director at Theory, said he felt especially touched by the honor. “To be a designer from Paris and then to move to New York and become a part of the CFDA? When that happened, it really dawned on me that I now am an American designer,” he said with a smile. “And I love the energy here. I never sleep. I don’t want to leave, but I keep scheduling trips back to France every few months so I can rest. I don’t want to get burned out in a few years because I’d like to stay here and work for a very long time.”

Charlotte’s brother Mark married Josephine de la Baume in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France Labor Day weekend, near to where Josephine was born. Charlotte and her family spent the long weekend—just before the madness of Fashion Week—soaking up the sun and exploring the gorgeous beaches. Here are a few of Charlotte’s pretty pictures of the very special getaway!
We’ve always had a crush on Azalea’s authentic indie-chic aesthetic: The boutique, located in the fashion-friendly Hayes Valley district, carries covetable and cute items—think: J. Brand and Madison Harding— is everything we love about San Fran’s cool and effortless vibe.
Which is why we were so excited to join them this past Saturday for a special Trunk Show event featuring the Charlotte Ronson spring/summer ’12 collection, and goodies from Sephora! The informal meet and greet was such a great event; Azalea has a fantastic staff—example: just look at how cute Dana and Brisa are!—with an eclectic eye for detail, and an innate sense of fashion that makes them all look as if they rolled out of bed looking perfect. In addition to the Azalea crew, Azalea’s customers are equally savvy, and it was great to spend the day with them, and get feedback from them as well.
Our love affair with Azalea doesn’t end here! Check back on Friday for a few items we couldn’t help but obsess over while we were in town, and see what other San Fran natives love about the neighborhood!
